Federal authorities have officially determined that the violent attack on a Michigan synagogue earlier this month was not random, but a calculated act of terrorism inspired by the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah.
Detroit FBI Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan dropped the bombshell at a press conference Monday, declaring the March 12th ramming attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township a clear act of terrorism motivated by Hezbollah’s militant ideology.
“Based on the evidence gathered to date, we assess this attack to be a Hezbollah-inspired act of terrorism purposely targeting the Jewish community and the largest Jewish temple in Michigan,” Runyan stated.
“The FBI defines terrorism as a violent criminal act by an individual who is inspired by or associated with a designated foreign terrorist organization. We do not make this characterization lightly without a thorough review and keen evaluation of the facts. In this case, the evidence shows the attacker was motivated and inspired by Hezbollah’s militant ideology.”
Runyan continued: “Although the assailant’s attack planning and mobilization to violence began in earnest on March 9th, which I will fully detail here shortly, a review of his online activity since January 2026 revealed a recurring search history of pro-Hezbollah news channels, Iranian news channels, and videos about shootouts and bullets.
“He regularly consumed breaking news and statements and live coverage of the current Secretary General of Hezbollah, Na’im Qassem, and viewed news coverage about an Iranian fatwa for total jihad against the US military.”

The attacker has been identified as 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali.
Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a Lebanese national who first entered the U.S. in 2011 on an IR1 immigrant visa as the spouse of a U.S. citizen. He was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2016 during the Obama administration.
Ghazali rammed his pickup truck loaded with gasoline, fireworks, and explosives into Temple Israel, exchanged gunfire with security, and ultimately died by suicide after his vehicle caught fire.
As The Gateway Pundit reported previously, Ghazali was no stranger to terror ties: his brother, Ibrahim Muhammad Ghazali, was a Hezbollah commander killed in an Israeli airstrike just days before the attack.
