GOP Senator Eric Schmitt (MO) was on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo to talk about the anti-ICE riots. He blasted the Democrats for the heated rhetoric that was fueling violence against law enforcement agents. He discussed Senate proposals to target rogue NGOs and sanctuary cities.
“My next guest, Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt, laid out a four-point immigration plan on the Senate floor on Friday, which includes ending sanctuary cities, enhancing penalties for illegal entry and reentry, protecting law enforcement officers, and dismantling rogue non-governmental organizations,” Bartiromo said.
“Do you expect we are going to see new restrictions or changes with regard to Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security?” Bartiromo asked.
“I want to be clear. We’re not gonna do anything that inhibits law enforcement’s ability to execute the laws that Congress has voted on, and the deportations the American people voted on in November of 2024,” Schmitt said.
Senator Schmitt reminded the viewers that one of President Trump’s central themes of his 2024 campaign was securing the border and deporting illegal aliens who came here during the Biden years.
“President Trump ran on this issue. Wasn’t a footnote, wasn’t a side note. This was a central plank of his campaign. The American people deserve that,” Senator Schmitt continued.
“This didn’t begin in Minneapolis last weekend, or even when President Trump took office last January. This began in January of 2021, when Joe Biden took office, dismantled the Border controls that we had before, and let in 15 to 20 million people here illegally, including tens of thousands of murderers, hundreds of thousands of other criminals,” Schmitt reminded the viewers.
“To my Democrat colleagues who have made this now a central focus of the next two weeks, thank you, thank you very much, because we are gonna have this debate now. This is a home game for us. We need to be aggressive,” Senator Schmitt continued.
Senator Schmitt took a strong stance supporting President Trump’s America First Agenda and said that immigration enforcement needs to continue.
“We should not back down at all, Maria. We need to press forward and the deportations will continue,” Schmitt continued.
“You’ve also got you know, leaders in the Democrat party telling citizens to get in their faces. Get in the faces of ICE, ok? Tim Walz, just the other day, two weeks ago told citizens to get out their cameras and you know, record all of the ICE operations,” Bartiromo explained.
The Senator also explained that the left and their rhetoric are what is fueling the violence in these sanctuary cities.
“They keep telling them that, and they tell them to you know, disrupt these investigations and disrupt these activities that law enforcement is lawfully doing,” Senator Schmitt said.
