Tim Walz ABC News interview

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has said that President Donald Trump told him he will “look into reducing the number of federal agents” in his state.

Walz called Trump and described the conversation as “productive,” and Trump called it “very good.”

The immigration enforcement operations in the state have sparked massive protests and standoffs between demonstrators and federal authorities, two of which have been fatal for the agitators.

Trump, for his part, expressed optimism about the discussion, writing on Truth Social that he and Walz “seemed to be on a similar wavelength.”

Trump wrote in full:

Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call, and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength. I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession. The Governor, very respectfully, understood that, and I will be speaking to him in the near future. He was happy that Tom Homan was going to Minnesota, and so am I! We have had such tremendous SUCCESS in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, and virtually every other place that we have “touched” and, even in Minnesota, Crime is way down, but both Governor Walz and I want to make it better! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

In a pair of posts on X, Walz wrote, “I had a productive call with President Trump earlier today. I told him we need impartial investigations of the Minneapolis shootings involving federal agents, and that we need to reduce the number of federal agents in Minnesota.”

The President agreed to look into reducing the number of federal agents in Minnesota and to talk to DHS about ensuring the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is able to conduct an independent investigation, as would ordinarily be the case.

“The President agreed to look into reducing the number of federal agents in Minnesota and to talk to DHS about ensuring the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is able to conduct an independent investigation, as would ordinarily be the case,” the far-left governor added.

The call follows the fatal shooting of anti-ICE protester Alex Pretti by federal agents on Saturday, which sparked violent riots.

The polite, and even optimistic, tone is a sharp contrast from the usual jabs traded by both parties.

Trump previously called Walz “retarded.”

Walz has compared ICE and the Trump administration to a Nazi regime.

The White House has not confirmed or denied Walz’s claim at the time of publishing.
