A woman from Minnesota was killed by a shark on Thursday while vacationing in the US Virgin Islands after an attack that severed one of her arms.
56-year-old Arlene Lillis died at the scene of the attack, according to the US Virgin Island Police Department.
Numerous people dialed 911 around 4:30 pm and reported a woman attacked by a shark. The attack occurred at Dorcsh Beach, located on the island of St. Croix.
A Minnesota woman died on Thursday after a shark chomped her arm off while she was visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Arlene Lillis, 56, of Minnesota, was pronounced dead following the attack, according to a news release from the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department.
Several people called 911 just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday to report that a woman had been attacked by a shark at Dorcsh Beach on St. Croix.
“Marine units as well as fire crews and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, according to police.” Fox News Reported.
Officials from the fire department confirmed that she had lost one of her arms from the shark attack, which resulted in her death.
There was a report that a shark might have attacked a second person, but St. Croix Rescue did not find anyone after searching the area.
At this time, police have not released information on whether the shark has been found or what caused the shark to attack the victim.
According to authorities, the investigation into the shark attack is ongoing.
A couple of weeks prior, a 55-year-old female was lost off the California coast. Witnesses reported seeing a shark with what appeared to be a human in its mouth.
According to the Coast Guard, the evidence was lacking in confirming the case of the lost woman was connected to the shark sighting.
