Macron is mad at AI and META.
By now, we are all used to AI-generated videos going viral, usually trolling someone hard.
But this week, France was shaken by a Facebook video that is a kind of repetition of Orson Welles’ ‘War of the Worlds’ radio broadcast – where thousands of people believed that aliens had invaded Earth.
In this case, failing French President Emmanuel Macron is enraged by an AI video depicting a fake news segment in which a reported says that the country has suffered a military coup d’état.
The video went viral, seen by more than 12 million people, and was shared on Facebook.
Macron ‘found out’ that he had been overthrown by a concerned message.
Euronews reported:
“’On Sunday (14 December) one of my African counterparts got in touch, writing ’Dear president, what’s happening to you? I’m very worried’’, Macron told readers of French local newspaper La Provence on 16 December.”
An AI-generated video about an alleged coup in France gained 13 million views in just a few days
The video went viral on Facebook. A “reporter” from the non-existent channel “Live 24” claimed that President Emmanuel Macron and his government had been overthrown.

“’Unofficial reports suggest that there has been a coup in France, led by a colonel whose identity has not been revealed, along with the possible fall of Emmanuel Macron. However, the authorities have not issued a clear statement’, [the AI reporter in the video] says.”
Macron tried to get the video taken down, but META responded that it did not violate its ‘rules of use’.
“’I tend to think that I have more power to apply pressure than other people’, Macron said. ‘Or rather, that it’s easier to say something is serious if I am the one calling, but it doesn’t work. These people are mocking us. They don’t care about the serenity of public debates, they don’t care about democracy, and therefore they are putting us in danger’.”
French daily Le Monde found the individual who created an #AI video that went viral earlier this week, in which France was subject to a coup d’état.
