Nancy Pelosi walked onto Capitol Hill this week for her first interview since announcing her retirement after 20 terms in Congress.
The interview, conducted by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and aired from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., was supposed to be a moment for reflection—a chance for the former Speaker to discuss her career, her policies, and her vision for the country she claimed to “love.”
Instead, before Cooper even cleared his first question during their tour of National Statuary Hall, Pelosi immediately launched into the same tired script Democrats rely on every time they want to avoid accountability: January 6th.
This was not an interview about the future. It wasn’t about the seven presidents she worked with. It wasn’t even about the country’s actual challenges in 2025 under President Trump, or America’s declining position under Democrats in Congress.
Pelosi began the interview with one topic and one topic only: January 6th.
Standing in the historic hall under the Lincoln-built dome, Pelosi told Cooper that “patriots” who visited the Capitol that day “defecated on the floor.”
She repeated that phrase twice, eager to paint anyone who dissent from Democrat rule as a criminal.
That was her priority—her leading message—during her first national interview since walking away from Congress.
Pelosi’s obsession reveals exactly how warped the Democrat narrative has become.
When Cooper asked her what she thinks about as she walks through the building, Pelosi did not bring up legislation, her party’s failures, or even her own legacy. She brought up January 6th.
She did not mention the migrant crime crisis. She did not mention inflation, border security, or the chaos Democrat policies continue to unleash on working families.
Instead, she recycled a political talking point Democrats use every time they need to distract from their policy record—especially now, with President Trump back in office and reversing their failures one by one.
It got worse.
Pelosi then insisted that “history will remember” January 6th exactly as she describes it, promising a “rehabilitation” of the narrative that Democrats spent years inflating for political gain.
She even invoked the statue of Clio, the Muse of History, claiming that Clio was “writing down everything” and was “appalled” on January 6th.
This is what the Democrat Party offers after decades of power: mythology, drama, and political theater instead of real policy or accountability.
Pelosi listed the presidents she “loved”—Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and even George W. Bush—but said nothing about the current President, Donald Trump, whose administration is cleaning up the consequences of the policies she championed.
She celebrated bipartisanship in theory while ignoring the division her own party fueled throughout Trump’s first term and again leading into 2024 and 2025.
She spoke about “optimism” and the American Revolution, yet she and her party continue attacking half the country as extremists while refusing to address the failures that pushed millions of voters back to President Trump.
This interview was historic for one reason only: it showed, with total clarity, what the Democrat Party has become.
Pelosi was given a national platform to talk about her retirement, her record, and her legacy.
Instead, she chose January 6th—again. She chose division. And she chose the same political script Democrats have used for years to avoid discussing crime, immigration, economic decline, and the consequences of their own leadership.
President Trump is focused on securing the border, restoring law and order, and rebuilding a country Democrats fractured.
Pelosi is still talking about January 6th.
