The Trump Administration is preparing federal agents to execute immigration raids and law enforcement activities in the Southeastern United States under a new operation, called “Swamp Sweep.”

The Department of Homeland Security is reportedly preparing to send 250 immigration officials to Mississippi and Louisiana as part of the operation.

The operations in Louisiana will be centered around the New Orleans area.

Meanwhile, the incoming New Orleans Mayor-elect, Helena Moreno, announced on Friday that she is launching a website to help illegal aliens evade ICE and for activists to report alleged abuse by federal agents.

“My first priority is to keep our community safe,” she said, according to Fox New Orleans. “The reports of due process violations and potential abuses in other cities are concerning. I want our community to be aware and informed of the protections available under law. We must demand accountability and that peoples’ rights are not violated.”

Sur Weishar, a policy and research fellow at the Jusuit School Institute, agrees with the incoming mayor, stating, “I’m just so delighted, and, if I can say, proud that we have elected a mayor who sees this for what it is, a real test of our democracy and the decency of the American people.”

Despite the leftist mayor’s attempts to undermine enforcement operations, Republicans in the state have championed the initiative, including Kenner, Louisiana Police Chief Kieth Conley, who said, “We’re here to support their mission.”

Unlike ICE, local police don’t have the resources to determine a suspect’s legal status, Conley says.

He further dismissed fake mainstream media and social media claims of ICE abuse. “It sensationalizes some in different aspects. I don’t think you get both sides of the story,” Conley said of the reports.

“If anybody feels that that’s in play, if that happens, they should reach out to the FBI, local law enforcement.”

Additionally, Mississippi Republicans welcome ICE.

State Attorney General Lynn Fitch has agreed to comply to “make Mississippi – and our entire nation – safer than ever before.”

Fox reports:

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch told Fox News Digital on Thursday that her office is proud to have been the first in the state to sign on as a formal ICE law enforcement partner.

“We look forward to working with Secretary Noem and the president to protect our communities and strengthen our efforts to combat human trafficking, drug cartels, and violent crime,” Fitch said.

“Together, we will make Mississippi – and our entire nation – safer than ever before.”

Another top Mississippi official, U.S. Rep. Michael Guest, chairs the House Homeland Security Subcommittee for Border Security and Enforcement.

In September, President Trump also signed a Presidential Memorandum to establish a “Memphis Safe Task Force,” utilizing 13 federal agencies and National Guard troops to end the crime in Memphis.

Trump has faced opposition in liberal cities and states like California, Illinois, and Oregon over attempted immigration operations. National Guard troops are reportedly now preparing to leave Chicago after a a federal appeals court blocked the Trump Administration’s troop deployment to Chicago. The Supreme Court is still weighing a decision on Trump’s appeal.

In California, Trump also faced backlash and lawsuits from Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass over National Guard and federal agent deployments, which sparked violent riots. And in Portland, Oregon, violent Antifa rioters repeatedly clashed with federal law enforcement while city and state leaders also sued to prevent National Guard deployments. Federal court cases remain ongoing in Oregon, despite Trump’s win in California, allowing him to federalize the National Guard and deploy troops.

This is a developing story.
