Sanctioned human rights abuser Justice Moraes.

Those around Moraes are starting to feel the pressure.

Back in July 30th, the Brazilian tyrannical Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes was hit by the US with sanctions under the Magnitsky Law for used his position ‘to authorize arbitrary pre-trial detentions and suppress freedom of expression’, taking it upon himself ‘to be judge and jury in an unlawful witch hunt against U.S. and Brazilian citizens and companies’, including former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Since then, even under pressure, Moraes has doubled down on his ‘Witch Hunt’, ordering Bolsonaro to be in home detention while the sham trial is underway.

So, today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) moved to sanction Moraes’ Lex Instituto de Estudos Juridicos LTDA (Lex Institute) for its support to the sanctioned judge.

Also designated today is Viviane Barci de Moraes (Viviane), de Moraes’ wife, who serves as the head of the Lex Institute.

“Alexandre de Moraes is responsible for an oppressive campaign of censorship, arbitrary detentions, and politicized prosecutions—including against former President Jair Bolsonaro. Today’s action makes clear that @USTreasury will continue to target individuals who provide material support to de Moraes as he abuses human rights.”

Treasury’s press release states:

“As a result of today’s action, all property and interests in property of the designated or blocked persons described above that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons are blocked and must be reported to OFAC.  In addition, any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, individually or in the aggregate, 50 percent or more by one or more blocked persons are also blocked.

Unless authorized by a general or specific license issued by OFAC, or exempt, OFAC’s regulations generally prohibit all transactions by U.S. persons or within (or transiting) the United States that involve any property or interests in property of blocked persons.”
