NYC Mayoral Candidate Vows Partnership with Trump Administration

Jim Walden’s candidacy for New York City mayor offers something the city has not seen in decades: an independent, centrist leader willing to work directly with a Republican president to put public safety and economic stability ahead of political agendas.

If elected, Walden has made it clear that he would cooperate with the Trump administration to restore immigration enforcement, end sanctuary city policies, and return the city’s focus to the needs of its residents.

Under Mayor Eric Adams, New York City declared itself a sanctuary city, encouraging the arrival of illegal immigrants from South America and other parts of the world. The result has been costly and disruptive.

Local taxpayers have been forced to fund hotels, food, and services for tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, many of whom arrived with no plan for housing or employment. Some hotels were damaged, and the city’s resources for its own residents were stretched thin.

These policies were implemented without a comprehensive plan, leaving New Yorkers to bear the consequences.

Walden has argued that the crisis could have been mitigated if city leadership had acted early. He had presented a legal strategy to stop the influx of illegal immigrant buses, but the Adams administration rejected it.

As mayor, Walden says he would have sought an injunction against the bus companies, stopping unplanned arrivals before they overwhelmed city infrastructure.

His approach blends strict enforcement against criminal activity with respect for legal immigration processes, shaped in part by his own family’s history as first-generation immigrants who came through Ellis Island.

Central to Walden’s immigration policy is a partnership with federal authorities. In a Trump administration, this would mean full cooperation in removing illegal immigrants who commit crimes while in the city.

Walden views this as a non-negotiable element of maintaining public safety. He also believes that the asylum process should be respected, handled fairly, and resolved quickly. He supports increasing the number of immigration judges so cases can be decided without years of delay.

illegal immigrants whose claims are denied through a lawful process would be returned to their countries of origin in a humane manner, while those with ongoing legal proceedings would not face premature removal.

Walden’s broader campaign strategy also reflects a desire to unify voters who oppose radical left-wing policies. He has proposed a “no spoiler” agreement with other major candidates—former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Eric Adams, and Republican Curtis Sliwa—that would consolidate support behind whichever candidate has the best chance of defeating Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani in the general election.

The agreement would be based on a large-scale poll conducted in early October, with the candidates agreeing to drop out if another in the group emerges as the strongest contender.

The reasoning is simple: in the last election, total voter turnout was around 1.1 million. If Mamdani can rely on roughly 600,000 votes from left-leaning Democrats and independents, the remaining 500,000 to 700,000 voters would be split among multiple candidates, allowing him to win without majority support.

Walden believes a one-on-one race between Mamdani and a free-market candidate would prevent New York from electing a mayor who supports defunding the police and imposing policies hostile to Jewish residents.

Walden is the only lifelong independent in the race, having left both major parties nearly two decades ago. His campaign emphasizes free-market principles, a strong but fair public safety system, and government accountability.

He rejects both the open-border approach of the Biden administration and the disregard for due process sometimes seen in heavy-handed enforcement policies. His goal is to create a balanced system that protects residents, upholds the law, and respects those who follow legal immigration procedures.

In shaping his vision for governing, Walden points to former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani as a model for combining private sector success, philanthropy, and effective city management.

While not agreeing with Bloomberg on every policy, Walden sees his term as an example of pragmatic leadership focused on results rather than ideology.

The choice Walden presents to voters is clear: a mayor who will work with the Trump administration to ensure New York City is safe, economically strong, and run for the benefit of its citizens, not for the agendas of political extremes.

After years of sanctuary city policies, unchecked spending on migrant services, and the erosion of public order, he argues that the city needs leadership grounded in practical solutions and independent judgment. His campaign positions him as the candidate willing to deliver both.
