AG Pam Bondi Ramps Up DOJ Cleanup With Another Round of Firings

Attorney General Pam Bondi

Attorney General Pam Bondi is stepping up his purge of corrupt officials working at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

According to a report from The Hill, Bondi and President Trump are “culling the ranks of career officials” who have links or loyalties to the Democratic establishment that led the persecution of conservatives during the Biden administration.

The report states:

Maurene Comey, a New York-based federal prosecutor and the daughter of the former FBI director, was fired Wednesday without explanation.

And news broke this week that the Justice Department also fired immigration court Judge Jennifer Peyton, who served as head of the Chicago immigration court system, shortly after the jurist gave a tour to Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Those firings come on the heels of the dismissal of at least 20 staffers who worked under former special counsel Jack Smith, a group that includes not only attorneys but also support staff and even U.S. marshals.

Attorney General Pam Bondi last week also fired the top career ethics official at the department, Joseph Tirrell, the latest in a string of ethics officials pushed out under President Trump.

The recent firings suggest that efforts to clean up the department remain ongoing, even though they began as soon as he took office.

Yet while the administration is targeting those who have taken advantage of their political influence, the vast majority of employees remain unaffected by the changes.

Justice Connection, a left-wing organization of former employees dedicated to protecting “colleagues who are under attack,” estimates that just 200 employees have lost their positions.

The majority of those who have lost their jobs were involved in the persecution of January 6th protesters and the efforts to imprison Trump on politically motivated charges.

The DOJ employs 115,000 people across the country, including attorneys, federal agents, correctional officers, and administrative staff.

Many employees are career civil servants who have worked under multiple administrations and whose portfolio is largely non-political.

Its workforce is spread across key agencies such as the FBI, DEA, Bureau of Prisons, and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, handling everything from national security investigations and criminal prosecutions to civil rights enforcement and immigration cases.

The DOJ has declined to comment on any personnel matters.
