Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has not just committed to phasing out cruel and outdated animal testing, but it has now also approved a program for putting the retired laboratory animals up for adoption.
The adoption plan was unearthed in internal EPA documents by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) and confirmed to White Coat Waste Project (WCW), the taxpayer watchdog that’s been relentless in exposing and dismantling government-funded animal torture.
Peer said in a press release, “There are approximately 20,000 animals in EPA labs, including rabbits, mice, and rats, which are primarily used to gauge the safety of environmental pollutants. The adoption program, which is debuting at EPA’s Research Triangle complex in North Carolina, is now offering zebrafish and rats for private adoption.”
Anthony Bellotti, President and Founder of White Coat Waste, celebrated the news in a statement:

The decision to end animal testing builds on a push initiated under President Donald Trump’s first term, but squashed by the Biden administration.
In 2019, under the first Trump administration’s EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler, the agency set a goal of a 30% reduction in mammal testing by 2025 and a complete phase-out by 2035. It was the most ambitious federal effort ever to stop bankrolling animal experiments, a move backed by millions of Americans who’d rather see their tax dollars fund pet adoptions than lab atrocities. But a 2023 WCW investigation exposed how Biden’s EPA quietly scrapped the plan.

WCW uncovered that Biden’s EPA was forcing animals to choke on simulated wildfire smoke and gunpowder fumes from rifles and handguns, all in the name of studying “environmental justice.” Rabbits were slaughtered after their “service,” even though the organization offered to rehome them.
Biden’s idea of justice includes a furry body count, and PETA, the so-called animal saviors, were nowhere to be found.
In 2019, PETA tried to steal credit for Trump’s animal testing reforms, despite WCW doing the heavy lifting.
PETA’s audacity peaked in November 2021 when they tweeted the bald-faced lie, “Unfortunately, Trump did nothing to stop animal experimentation.” Meanwhile, when Biden’s EPA gutted the deadlines, PETA didn’t just stay silent; they showered the agency with praise. Seems they were too busy rubbing elbows with politicians and getting celebrities naked for crass advertisements to notice the blood on the lab floor.
Let’s all hope, for the animals’ sake, that PETA is not involved in the adoption efforts, as they have killed over 80 percent of the animals brought to their Virginia shelter since 1998, according to calculations on PetaKillsAnimals.com. That’s not a shelter; it’s a slaughterhouse with better PR.
Trump’s EPA is proving that real change means saving animals, not staging photo ops or tweeting empty platitudes. PETA could learn a thing or two, but they’re probably too busy counting their kills.
