Britain has announced that is sending military assets to the Middle East as Israel’s conflict with Iran continues to escalate.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the comments on his way to the G7 summit in Canada.
“We are moving assets to the region, including jets, and that is for contingency support in the region,” he told reporters.
”I will be clear-eyed in relation to our duties and obligations, and my duties as the prime minister of the United Kingdom.”

Starmer said that after speaking with several world leaders, including President Trump, there is widespread concern over escalation.
His comments came after Iranian media reported that Tehran warned the U.S., U.K., and France it would target their military bases and naval forces if they defended Israel.
“We do have long-standing concerns about the nuclear program that Iran has, and we do recognize Israel’s right to self-defense,” Starmer continued.
“But I am absolutely clear that this needs to de-escalate.”
On Saturday evening, Israeli officials seemingly opened the door to an assassinating Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with a senior official confirming that it was not “off limits.”
“The war would only end either with Iran voluntarily dismantling its nuclear program or Israel making it impossible for Tehran to reconstitute it,” the official told The Wall Street Journal.

While Iran is already attacking Israel with hundreds of ballistic missiles, the assassination of Khamenei would mark a practical and symbolic escalation that could spark wider conflict across the region.

Meanwhile, President Trump announced on Truth Social that he had held a call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and they had agreed they want the conflict to attend.
“The call (between Trump and Putin) lasted approximately 1 hour,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
”He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war should also end.”
