OMB Director Russ Vought on “Fox News Sunday” 6/8/25

White House OMB Director Russ Vought was on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream to discuss President Trump’s bill and its impact on the national debt.

Bream asked Director Vought about the potential increase to the national debt regarding the “Big Beautiful Bill”. The CBO claimed that it would add about $2.4 trillion to the debt.

“All the watchdogs use an artificial baseline that is part of the way that Washington DC does business here in which they assume that all spending is eternal but tax relief in 2017 was to sunset,” Vought said.

“When you just extend tax relief, you are in a situation where it looks like this major cost, and of course that is not a cost, if it were not to occur, it would be a major tax increase to the American people,” Vought explained.

“When you adjust for that baseline, that big gain. This is putting aside the economic growth that we think that they also understate. When you adjust for that, it is $1.4 trillion in reduced deficits and debt,” Vought said.

Bream also asked Director Vought about the CBO and if their method of determining spending was in error.

“What is the issue then with CBO? If they are using methods Congress tells them they have to use, are those methods wrong?” Bream asked.

Vought explained that the CBO’s analysis is not always accurate.

“The baseline that they have to go against does require what I just articulated, however CBO is not precluded by putting out the most accurate analysis they want to,” Vought explained.

Bream also asked Director Vought about Elon Musk and how it might affect the bill with his recent departure from the Trump team.

“Shannon, we are not worried about. The President is moving on. I think the President in all of these headlines are missing the fact that the President is the leader of this administration and the one that is driving the agenda, and the people are going to come and go in an administration and the President will be there defending the interests of the American people,” Vought continued.
