President Trump on Sunday took questions from reporters in New Jersey before boarding Air Force One en route to Washington, DC, where he shared unhappiness with the continued fighting between Russia and Ukraine as he seeks to bring peace to the region.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Russia continues making steady advances in Ukraine and striking the Capital, Kiev, as NATO countries are dumping unprecedented amounts of military aid to support Ukraine.
President Trump was asked for an update on the war, and he condemned the actions by Putin.
“I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all,” Trump said.
He further noted that this comes as they’re “in the middle of” negotiating an end to the war, and he’s “very surprised” by the move.
The President was also asked about an apparent drone assassination attempt against Putin. Russian Air Force Major-General Yuri Dashkin said that Putin’s helicopter was “virtually at the epicenter of repelling a large-scale attack by the enemy’s drones,” and that 46 drones were shot down during the attack on Sunday.
Trump said he hadn’t heard about it yet, “but maybe that would be a reason.” It is unclear if he meant Russian attacks were the reason behind the attempt, or the contrary, that Russia was attacking because of such Ukrainian aggression. Previously, in 2023, Russian news reported that Ukraine attempted to hit the Kremlin overnight with a drone strike in an assassination attempt on President Putin.
Later in the press gaggle, President Trump said he is “absolutely” considering placing more sanctions on Russia.
In a hilarious exchange between questions, Trump ate one reporter’s lunch when he was asked what he planned to do about Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. “What, am I going to tell you? m the fake news, aren’t you? You’re totally fake,” Trump said.
Reporter: Could you provide us an update on Russia and Ukraine?
Trump: Yeah, I’ll give you an update. I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all, okay? We’re in the middle of talking, and he’s shooting rockets into Kiev and other cities. I don’t like it at all. I’m surprised. I’m very surprised.
Reporter: Mr. President, what are you going to do about that?
Trump: We’ll see what we’re going to do. What, am I going to tell you? You’re the fake news, aren’t you? You’re totally fake… I don’t like what Putin is doing, not even a little bit. He’s killing people. And something happened to this guy, and I don’t like it.
Reporter: A russian commander reportedly said that Putin was almost caught in the middle of a drone attack from Ukraine. So, do you have any response?
Trump: I haven’t heard that, but maybe that would be a reason. I don’t know, but I have not heard that.
