Dominic McGregor, a British entrepreneur, investor, speaker, author, and mental health/sobriety advocate, used Mississippi as an example of how far the UK has fallen, branding residents of the Magnolia State “swamp-dwelling hillbillies.”

McGregor wrote on X, “If the UK joined the US as the 51st state.”

“We would be the poorest state in the entire union.”

“Mississippi which is portrayed at swamp dwelling hillbillies in majority of international media is above us.”

“I don’t think people grasp how far we’ve fallen in real terms when it comes to GDP per capita.”

“We’ve seen no growth for almost an entire generations.”

“We’ve seen our productivity decrease and our tax increases.”

“The average person on the UK, on £50,000 is less well off than your average Mississippi swamp dweller.”

If the UK joined the US as the 51st state.

We would be the poorest state in the entire union.

McGregor’s post was highly critical of the UK, and the insult to rural Americans was casually thrown in. But users on X took it as an opportunity to clap back with hilarity.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) responded, “As we say in Mississippi, Bless Your Heart.’”

“Or, as you say in the UK, As-Salamu Alaykum.’”

Another added, “Have you considered posting this in Arabic so the people of the UK can read it?”

One noted, “And even worse than being poor, you have no freedom.”

Yep. And even worse than being poor, you have no freedom.

Other users referenced the UK’s increasingly hostile crackdown on free speech.

The Gateway Pundit reported that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned British citizens that he would arrest them for “participating in violence online.”

A man was recently arrested for “malicious communications” in Hampshire, England, for a social media post that dared to mock the transgender flag.

Conservative U.K. media personality Katie Hopkins was interviewed by British police over ‘thought crimes’ following an online comedy night.

UK Police Commissioner Mark Rowley even threatened international citizens over online posts, warning, “We will come after you.”

“Pretty sure that if you post something online or say something in public that the government doesn’t like in Mississippi, they don’t send police to your house. And that’s a real plus,” an X user posted.

“People in Mississippi can say what they want without getting arrested and buy guns too. Practically paradise compared to the UK.”
