Will an Easter truce hold?
As the world watches the frail two-week ceasefire in Iran, another war may get a pause – albeit a short one – during a religious holiday for the Russian and Ukrainian Slavs.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a cease-fire during Orthodox Easter weekend, from 4PM April 11 to end of day April 12.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the nation’s military to halt all the operations against Ukrainian forces for the weekend when Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter, the Kremlin has announced. The unilateral pause is scheduled to last from 16:00 (Moscow time) on Saturday till the end of Sunday.
According to the Kremlin, the troops should still be ready to respond to any Ukrainian offensive operations or provocations, with relevant orders given to Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov.”

CNN reported:
“Putin said ‘all hostilities’ would halt between 6 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday (11 a.m. ET) and midnight on Monday (5 p.m. Sunday ET).
‘We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example’, he said, adding that the truce would help Russia determine how sincere Kiev is about wanting to reach a ceasefire.”
“Hours after declaring the ceasefire, Putin attended an Orthodox Easter service at Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior, alongside the city’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin and other worshippers, according to Reuters.
Putin could be seen holding a lit red candle and crossing himself as Patriarch Kirill led the service. Kirill is the head of Russia’s Orthodox Church, a faithful backer of the Russian leader and an advocate for the war in Ukraine.”
