Rightwinger in action: Chile’s Kast, Ecuador’s Noboa and Paraguay’s Peña.

Latin patriots have the right momentum.

Less than a week after the ‘Shield of the Americas’ summit in Doral, Florida, right-wing leaders are on the move across Latin America.

The most relevant development today (11) was right-wing José Antonio Kast being sworn in as Chile’s new president, expected to move the country considerably to the right.

Associated Press reported:

“In a ceremony at the National Congress in the coastal city of Valparaíso and attended by dozens of heads of state, Kast and his Cabinet took the oaths of office after a landslide victory in the 2025 elections.

Among those attending the ceremony were Argentina’s President Javier Milei, Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, and Spain’s King Felipe VI. Other guests included Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado.

There were several high-profile absences, including Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil and Nayib Bukele of El Salvador. A modest U.S. delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.”

Kast took back Chile from failing socialists.

“Kast, a Trump-inspired political veteran, won a landslide victory in December against government-backed communist candidate Jeannette Jara with the promise of fighting crime and curbing illegal immigration, a project that holds similarities to policies adopted by his U.S. counterpart.”

In the meantime, Ecuador is set to launch a major offensive against criminal organizations as soon as this weekend, with logistical support from the United States.

Military Times reported:

“Speaking to a local radio station, Interior Minister John Reimberg urged citizens to observe an 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew from March 15-30 in the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas — three of the most violent in the South American country.

[…] ‘We do not want collateral victims from the attacks we are about to launch’, Reimberg said. ‘We have significant support from U.S. forces for the operations we are about to carry out’.”

“The announcement came days after Ecuador and the U.S. began joint military operations against organized crime groups in the South American country, although at the time neither government gave details of the location and scope of the operation.”

Paraguay’s Peña is an outspoken leader against socialism.

And finally, Paraguay’s Chamber of Deputies approved today a landmark defense agreement allowing US military presence.

Los Angeles Times reported:

“Paraguay’s Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday approved a defense agreement allowing the temporary presence of U.S. military and civilian personnel within its borders, widely seen as a victory for the Trump administration, which has sought to strengthen its presence in Latin America.

The Status of Forces Agreement, or SOFA, was approved by a large majority of lawmakers and now awaits the signature of President Santiago Peña to take effect. Peña, one of Trump’s closest allies in the region, is expected to sign the deal in the coming days.

[…] Signed by both countries in Washington in December, the agreement establishes a legal framework for the presence of U.S. security forces in Paraguay for training, joint exercises and humanitarian assistance. It also authorizes the United States to have criminal jurisdiction over its personnel while in the country.”
