Fired Washington Post Staffers Try to Enter Building in Protest, Only to Find They’ve Already Been Locked Out (VIDEO)

Screencap of Twitter/X video.

Some of the people who were fired by the Washington Post in the latest round of layoffs, showed up at the building this week to protest. These people cannot and will not accept the fact that they were fired. They actually believe that they have a ‘right’ to these jobs.

A group of them tried to enter the building, only to find that their key cards no longer worked and they had already been locked out.

When they finally leave, the spokesman vows that they will be back. Why? What’s the point? Have you ever seen a more entitled group of people?

Hill Rag reports:

“My personal opinion is that it’s union-busting,” said Lisa Gusty, a Washington Post senior software engineer and co-vice chair of The Washington Post Tech Guild. “They’re trying to sow confusion and sort of pit us against one another.”

The Guild represents employees in engineering, product design and data roles at the Washington Post.

Gusty commented in the wake of a wave of layoffs and access restrictions that have shaken the newspaper’s technology workforce in recent days and raised questions about whether management’s actions comply with federal labor law…

On Feb. 10, Tech Guild members gathered at Post headquarters and attempted to enter their offices. Post security guards turned them away, an encounter the union recorded on video.

After the action, Guild members regrouped to plan and support the affected workers, Gusty said. The Guild is preparing to file a complaint with the NLRB. The union has established a GoFundMe page to prepare for a strike.

“We’re fighting to get Jeff Bezos and the new CEO to roll back these cuts,” Gusty said. “We’ve been fighting this too long to let this go.”

This same Twitter/X account has characterized the firings as “illegal.”

When they came to work this morning – to continue the jobs they were hired to do – they were blocked from entering the building. Our members are still employees. We are in Status Quo, which means that these layoffs are illegal.

These folks would be wise to go home and start applying for other jobs. They are not going to be able to protest their way back into the Washington Post.
