Protesters gather in front of a vehicle during a demonstration, holding signs and expressing their views under a cloudy sky.

A female student at an anti-ICE protest at Fremont High School in Fremont, Nebraska on Thursday was hit by a car flying a Trump flag.

Protesters gather in front of a vehicle during a demonstration, holding signs and expressing their views under a cloudy sky.

Video shows the girl running in the road with a handful of student protesters in front of the school while holding a sign. The girl appears to run in the path of the car as it accelerated a few feet. The male driver, who appears to also be a student, had just gotten in the car after what looked like some kind of confrontation with protesters on the sidewalk. He had reportedly driven by the protest several times.

The girl was hit on the passenger side front bumper and landed on the hood before falling off. The driver stopped momentarily as a school administrator flagged him down but then sped up and drove away from the school. A male passenger could be seem looking out the passenger side front window. A protester stole the Trump flag that was attached to the back of the car while it was stopped.

The girl was reported to be conscious and talking after being hit and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. There are no reports on whether the driver faces charges or the condition of the victim as of Thursday night.

Videos posted by News Channel Nebraska of the incident along with interviews of students and the victim being put in an ambulance.

KETV showed videos taken from in front of and behind the car that hit the protester:

Statement by Fremont Public Schools:

Fremont High School administrators oversee a student-led demonstration, ensuring safety as a student is treated after being struck by a car during the event.

State elected officials posted comments on the hit and run.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen (R): “Here’s a fundamental truth we should all agree upon: Political violence – no matter what – is never okay. There is a lot about this particular situation we still need to learn, and we trust that local law enforcement will carry out a thorough and complete investigation. The freedom to peacefully assemble is a cornerstone of American government and must be protected.
We will continue to monitor this situation and pray for the health of the girl who was hit.”

Sen. Deb Fischer (R): “In Nebraska, we respect the right of people to peacefully protest. Disrupting such a peaceful protest with violence is never ok, and I hope the person involved is identified. Praying for the young woman in this horrible incident.”

Sen. Pete Ricketts (R): “I am praying for the high school student injured in this incident. We must all remember that we can disagree politically, and not resort to violence as a response. I expect that all high school administrations will make sure all students have a safe and productive learning environment, and take appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.”

Rep. Don Bacon (R): “We have the right to peaceful protest. The driver of this car should be held accountable for using their vehicle to assault a legal protestor. Let us be decent towards each other and respect differences of opinions. Decency, patience, kindness and empathy.”

Rep. Mike Flood (R): “This is not what we do in Nebraska – this is not ok. The video of the girl being hit by a car at the school protest is disturbing. While initial reports say that the girl was alert and talking when she was taken away, we are praying for her and her well being. The incident needs to be fully investigated by law enforcement. It is critical that our country preserve the ability of people to safely protest.”
