Outgoing Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) used her final days in office to launch an attack on President Donald Trump during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
It can be recalled that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene declared she is resigning from Congress effective January 5, 2026.
As the world celebrates the bold capture of Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro, MTG chose to side with the establishment playbook.
With host Kristen Welker repeatedly framing the segment around Greene’s “last day in Congress,” the interview quickly devolved into a bitter airing of grievances, as Greene accused the Trump administration of betraying America First by targeting Maduro instead of Mexican drug cartels.
Greene claimed that if the operation were truly about stopping narcotics trafficking, the administration would have focused on Mexico rather than Venezuela.
Despite admitting she was “happy for the people of Venezuela to be liberated,” Greene parroted tired Washington talking points, comparing Maduro’s downfall to Iraq and Libya and warning that U.S. involvement would only benefit “big corporations, banks, and oil executives.”
When pressed by Welker on whether President Trump gets to define what “America First” means, Greene openly rejected that premise, declaring that America First should be defined by her own interpretation, not by the voters who elected Trump in 2024 or by the commander-in-chief executing U.S. foreign policy.
She accused Trump of catering to donors and special interests, bizarrely suggesting that the successful removal of a narco-tyrant destabilizing the region somehow undermines American workers while simultaneously warning that U.S. companies might invest in a post-Maduro Venezuela.
Greene:
“My pushback here is on the Trump administration campaigned on Make America Great Again that we thought was putting America first.I want to see domestic policy be the priority that helps Americans afford life after four disastrous years of the Biden administration.
I want to see domestic policies that prioritizes jobs and affordable housing for Americans after four disastrous years of the Biden administration.
I want to see domestic priorities that put Americans first in regards of health care, health insurance cost too much, car insurance, home insurance. These are issues that matter to Americans. We don’t consider Venezuela our neighborhood. Our neighborhood is right here in the 50 United States. Not in the Southern hemisphere.
[…]
America First should mean what was promised on the campaign trail in 2024. My understanding of America First is strictly for the American people—not for the big donors that donate to big politicians, not for the special interests that constantly roam the halls in Washington, and not for foreign countries that demand their priorities be put first over Americans.
America First actually means for the American people, and the American people have been put last consistently—decades, decades, and decades—by both political parties for far too long.
My kids’ generation—my kids are 22, 26, and 28—are looking at a future where this whole entire generation doesn’t think they’ll ever see a Social Security check. They don’t believe they’ll ever be able to afford to own their own home. And 50-year mortgages are really a slap in the face. It’s insulting.
Americans don’t want $2,000 stimulus checks as a payoff. They want good policies brought forth for them. Because you want to know something, Kristen? They voted for this administration, and their small-dollar donation should matter.
MAGA has its own enemy list, and the enemies of the world are not on their enemy list—and they’re tired of being ignored.
[…]
But here’s what should be prioritized: victims. Victims of an entire system that protected the rich, powerful elites. That’s what Americans are absolutely sick and tired of.
That was part of what they voted for in 2024. They voted to tear down the system that protects the rich, powerful elites. They voted to tear down the system that consistently goes for foreign wars and regime change.
They voted to tear down the system that does nothing for regular, hardworking Americans and only consistently props up the big banks, the military-industrial complex, and the oil executives—and major, major industries industries.
You want to know something? After this regime change in Venezuela, I fear that we’re going to see jobs just move south, because we’re already hearing about big corporations lining up trips to Venezuela for the next big business opportunity that exists—while Americans sit here with no options that are going to provide them with good-paying jobs and affordable health care.”
Investigative reporter Laura Loomer, who has been publicly at odds with Greene in the past, issued a blistering rebuttal on X, accusing MTG of parroting “communist talking points” and fundamentally misunderstanding American energy dominance.
Loomer wrote:
“A day before resigning from Congress, MTG shows she knows nothing about American energy dominance or economics in her anti-Trump rant on Meet The Press.
Marjorie Traitor Greene clearly doesn’t understand basic economics. It’s no wonder why she couldn’t last more than 2 terms in office.
Venezuela’s crude oil is predominantly heavy and sour. They have approximately 303 billion barrels of proven reserve, the largest of any nation on earth.
The United States has heavy refineries in many cities in the Gulf of America, including: Lake Charles (Louisiana), Corpus Christi (Texas), Baytown (Texas), Baton Rouge (Louisiana), Garyville (Louisiana), Galveston Bay/Texas City (Texas), Port Arthur (Texas), Pascagoula (Mississippi), Chalmette (Louisiana), and Sweeny (Texas).
These refineries can process approximately 10 million barrels per day. Our Gulf based heavy refineries directly employ between 20,000–30,000 people (including operators, engineers, maintenance, and support staff). This excludes thousands of daily contractors, which can add 20–50% during normal operations. These jobs are high-paying jobs that include benefits, and support broader economic impacts, including millions of indirect jobs in supply chains and communities related to the US energy sector and Gulf tourism.
The freight costs to bring the Venezuelan oil to the Gulf of America for refinement is substantially cheaper than shipping it to China. Currently, due to US sanctions, nearly 1 million barrels of oil per day is being sent to China from Venezuela.
That oil should be going to the US instead.
The US has been sanctioning the sale of Venezuela’s oil to punish Maduro, but now it’s time to reissue licenses and lift sanctions so we can free the oil and DRILL BABY DRILL!
Once sanctions are lifted, the oil will be refined in the US. This will benefit the US economy as opposed to benefitting our adversaries Iran, Russia, Cuba and China.
Marjorie Traitor Greene’s talking points are communist talking points. She is America Last and she is deliberately lying about how taking Venezuela’s oil will result in job losses in the US. Taking the oil will create TENS OF THOUSANDS of jobs in the energy sector in the US and will also boost the US Economy, along with Venezuela’s economy to create an economic environment that encourages remigration of Venezuelan illegals back to Venezuela.
President Trump is going to Make Venezuela Great Again so that all of the Venezuelans on TPS in the US go back to where they came from.
Marjorie Traitor Greene owns a construction company with her ex husband, so she likely wants these Venezuelan illegals to remain in the US instead of going back to Venezuela so she can get cheap labor.
Clearly, she doesn’t understand how jobs are created.
Refining Venezuelan oil in the Gulf of America creates very high paying jobs for tens of thousands of Americans and it helps promote American energy dominance.”
