Two down, one to go.

In a rare episode, not seen since the end of the 20th Century, a Colorado woman has died in a suspected mountain lion attack back on Thursday (1).

NBC News reported:

“Hikers told authorities they saw a mountain lion near a person who was lying on the ground 100 yards away around 12:15 p.m., on the Crosier Mountain trail in unincorporated Larimer County, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a news release.

The hikers scared the lion away by throwing rocks and then attended to the adult woman, the release said. One of the witnesses was a physician and ‘did not find a pulse’, said Kara Van Hoose, spokesperson with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.”

“There were signs that this was consistent with a mountain lion attack but we can’t say for sure’, Van Hoose told reporters Thursday. She said it’s believed the woman was hiking alone.”

Colorado authorities launched an extensive search for mountain lions, even utilizing dogs to track the scent of the predator.

A hiker on a trail in Colorado was killed after a suspected mountain lion attack on New Year’s Day, authorities said. One mountain lion found at the scene was euthanized, and a second one located nearby had the same fate.

Colorado policy mandates that wild animals that attack humans ‘must be euthanized for public safety’.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife tells me they are now tracking a third mountain lion in the area of the fatal attack in Larimer County. They have euthanized two mountain lions in the wake of the fatal attack.
