A suspect was arrested after he pulled a state trooper from her patrol vehicle in Washington state and stole her vehicle. To make matters worse, it occurred on a freeway and happened to be on Christmas Day.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the man was on I-5, running across all lanes multiple times.

After a trooper attempted to control the situation, the suspect pushed her down and stole the vehicle. A pursuit followed afterwards.

Fox News Reported:

A suspect is in custody after Washington State Patrol (WSP) said he pulled a trooper from her patrol car and stole the vehicle during a chaotic Christmas Day incident on a major interstate in Seattle.

A WSP spokesperson told Fox News Digital troopers had been trying to locate the man after receiving reports he was running back and forth across all lanes of Interstate 5.

The spokesperson said a WSP lieutenant encountered him while attempting to address the safety concern, when authorities said he jumped into her patrol car and drove off, prompting a pursuit.

TMZ had footage of the incident.

According to the Washington State Patrol, finding the suspect was the result of efforts by numerous agencies. Included in that list was Seattle PD. After pursuing the suspect, troopers stopped him by striking the vehicle.

According to the police, the man resisted arrest. To neutralize the situation, the officers had to use a taser. He was then arrested.

The suspect’s name is Alexander Eugene Smith.

The records at King County Jail show that he was being charged with suspicion of a DUI, assaulting a law enforcement officer, robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and eluding law enforcement, which is a felony.

Officials believe Smith was intoxicated and were able to get a warrant to draw blood. At this time, they are still waiting for the toxicology results.

The lieutenant had minor injuries. Some vehicles were damaged during the pursuit, but no one was seriously injured.

The investigation is still open.
