20-year-old Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, a member of the West Virginia National Guard passed away this evening, following a horrific terrorist ambush of her and another West Virginia National Guardsman in Washington, DC on Wednesday.
The second National Guardsman, 24-year-old Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition.
President Trump announced the news shortly after 6:30 pm ET on Wednesday, describing her as a “highly respected, young, magnificent person” and “outstanding in every way.”
“She’s no longer with us. She’s looking down at us right now. Her parents are with her. It’s just happened. She was savagely attacked. She’s dead. Not with us. Incredible person, outstanding in every single way, in every department,” the President said.

The Gateway Pundit reported that the two National Guard members were shot near the White House on Wednesday, causing the White House to come under lockdown.

Officers could be seen tending to and performing CPR on the victims shortly after the shooting.

The suspect was later identified as 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who entered the country under Biden in 2021. Lakanwal’s permission to be in the US expired in September 2025, and he has been living in the United States illegally ever since. The alien entered under Biden’s “Operation Allies Welcome” program following the botched 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal.
As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, Sarah’s father, Gary Beckstrom, told a reporter, “She has a mortal wound,” and “It’s not going to be a recovery.”
