At this point, the suspense is cruel.
For those of us closely following the developments around the massive military detachment to Latin America and the veritable maritime siege of Venezuela, the anticipation is hard to deal with.
We can only imagine the frame of mind of servicemen and women who had their Christmas suspended over a need operational readiness.
Addressing the troops in a call yesterday, President Donald J. Trump said that the US will ‘very soon’ start stopping suspected Venezuelan drug trafficking networks ‘by land’.
That would mean a shift from the ongoing naval military campaign.
The New York Post reported:
“‘In recent weeks, you’ve been working to deter Venezuelan drug traffickers, of which there are many’, Trump said in a call with US service members on Thanksgiving. ‘Of course, there aren’t too many coming in by sea anymore. Have you probably noticed that?’”
Trump slammed traffickers who send ‘poisons’ into the US and ‘kill hundreds of thousands of people a year’.
It’s estimated that seaborne trafficking has diminished by 85% since the strikes on suspected drug-boats.
“’From sending their poisons into the United States, where they kill hundreds of thousands of people a year — but we’re going to take care of that situation’, Trump said. ‘We’re already doing a lot… It’s about 85% stopped by sea’.
‘You probably noticed that now people aren’t wanting to be delivering by sea, and we’ll be starting to stop them by land also. The land is easier, but that’s going to start very soon’, he continued.”
Trump has announced land-based strikes since the beginning of the operation in the Caribbean in September.
Since then, the US has since carried over 21 fatal strikes on the suspected drug-boats.
