‘Reverend’ Jesse Jackson is on ‘life support’ as his friends and family fly to Chicago to be with him.

Last week it was reported that Jesse Jackson, 84, was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after he was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder.

In 2017 Jesse Jackson announced he had Parkinson’s disease.

“The Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr. was admitted to the hospital today and is currently under observation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He has been managing this neurodegenerative condition for more than a decade,” the Rainbow Push Coalition said in a statement last week.

“He was originally diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease; however, last April, his PSP condition was confirmed. The family appreciates all prayers at this time,” they said.

According to CBS News, Jesse Jackson is not fully aware and is rapidly declining.

CBS News reported:

The Rev. Jesse Jackson is on a form of life support, sources told CBS News.

Sources said Jackson has been on medication for a few days to keep his blood pressure stable, but his medical team is trying to wean him off the medication.

Sources also said Jackson has occasional moments of awareness, but he is said to be steadily weakening.

CBS News Chicago has also learned that friends and family are flying into Chicago from around the country to be by Jackson’s side.

Jackson, 84, is under observation at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He was recently diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a neurodegenerative condition. PSP is similar to Parkinson’s, with which Jackson publicly shared he had been diagnosed in 2017.

In 2023, Jesse Jackson retired from his post as head of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, a civil rights group he founded in the 1970s.
