Warsaw prosecutors announced the arrest of a Ukrainian man wanted by Germany for his alleged role in the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions.

The Washington Post reported, the man has been identified by his lawyer as Volodymyr Z. and was arrested in Poland on a European arrest warrant issued by Germany.

Germany has described the suspect as a “trained diver” and was part of the team that attached explosives to the Nord Stream pipelines which is located in the Baltic Sea between Russia and Germany.

The Associated Press reported Polish authorities attempted to arrest the man last year but were unable to do so because the suspect fled to Ukraine before an arrest could be made.

Per The Washington Post:

A Ukrainian man sought by Germany for his suspected involvement in the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines was arrested in Poland, the Warsaw public prosecutor’s office confirmed Tuesday.

The suspect, identified by his lawyer as Volodymyr Z., was detained Tuesday on a European arrest warrant issued by German prosecutors, according to Volodymyr Z.’s attorney, Tymoteusz Paprocki.

“I can confirm that this morning in a village near Warsaw, my friend Volodymyr Z. was arrested by the police,” Paprocki told The Post.

“My client does not agree with this and says he’s not guilty.”

German prosecutors described the suspect as a “trained diver” and alleged that he was part of a team that planted explosives on the undersea pipelines.

The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office noted in the arrest warrant that the man was part of a group that rented a sailing yacht under false identities near the German city of Rostock to the island of Bornholm.

Once they arrived near the island of Bornholm, the team then conducted a series of dives to plant explosives on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream pipelines, which were later detonated.

Initially, European leaders, without evidence, blamed the gas pipeline explosion on the Russians.

Last month, The Gateway Pundit reported a Ukrainian in Italy was arrested in connection to the detonation of the Nord Stream pipelines.

Due to German privacy laws, the man was only identified as Serhii K.
