Kremlin Says Putin Is Ready for Peace With Kiev, but Is Focused on Achieving Objectives – Turkish Media Suggests Russia and Ukraine Talks May Restart as Soon as Wednesday

As Putin’s Russia escalates drone and missile strikes and offensive operations, Ukraine’s Zelensky appears ready for peace talks.

As US President Donald J. Trump’s ’50 days to end the war’ are passing us by, we start to see timid but real developments on peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

On Saturday (19), Kiev regime leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that his team has proposed ‘a new round of peace talks this week’.

Yesterday (20), the Kremlin responded, saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘is ready to move toward a peace settlement’.

However, spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state television, Moscow’s main objective remains to achieve its goals in the war.

Reuters reported:

“Peskov said that the world was now accustomed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s sometimes ‘harsh’ rhetoric but pointed out that Trump had also underscored in comments on Russia that he would continue to search for a peace deal.

‘President Putin has repeatedly spoken of his desire to bring the Ukrainian settlement to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible. This is a long process, it requires effort, and it is not easy’, Peskov said told state television reporter Pavel Zarubin. ‘The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear’, Peskov said.”

So far, the threats by Trump of sanctions and secondary tariffs against Moscow and its commercial partners have not caused the conflict to lose intensity.

Associated Press reported:

“Peskov and other Russian officials have repeatedly rejected accusations from Kiev and its Western partners of stalling peace talks. Meanwhile, Moscow continues to intensify its long-range attacks on Ukrainian cities, launching more drones in a single night than it did during some entire months in 2024, and analysts say the barrages are likely to escalate.

[…] The Kremlin has insisted that any peace deal should see Ukraine withdraw from the four regions that Russia illegally annexed in September 2022, but never fully captured. It also wants Ukraine to renounce its bid to join NATO and accept strict limits on its armed forces — demands Kiev and its Western allies have rejected.”

As for the peace talk initiative, Russian state media reports that no date has yet been agreed upon, and said that Istanbul would likely remain the host city.

Meanwhile, Turkish press says talks may begin Wednesday (23).

Slavyangrad reported:

“Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may take place on July 23–24 in Istanbul.

This is reported by the Turkish publication İndependent Türkçe, citing diplomatic sources.

There is no official confirmation of this information yet. Earlier, Zelensky stated that Ukraine had proposed to Russia to hold negotiations this week.

July 23–24 falls on Wednesday and Thursday. The publication writes that the meeting place is still unknown.”
