A Democrat senator’s attempt to pour gasoline over a raging political fire by putting a bullseye on the most powerful man in the world blew up in his face on Monday.

As The Gateway Pundit’s Kristinn Taylor reported, two Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party lawmakers and their spouses were shot in ‘targeted’ attacks at their homes early Saturday by a man dressed as a police officer.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced at a press briefing that Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were killed in the shootings. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were seriously wounded. Walz called the shootings “targeted” attacks.

57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter was later identified as the suspect in these attacks. As TGP’s Cassandra MacDonald notes, Boelter was a Tim Walz appointee and led an international security firm.

He was arrested late Sunday night.

During an appearance on CNN, anchor John Berman discussed the incident with Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR). He asked the Oregon politician what he thinks of the current political environment in the wake of this horrific act of violence.

“How would you describe the current political atmosphere in the country this morning?” Berman asked.

Without hesitating, Merkley pointed the finger at the man who survived two assassination attempts provoked by violent rhetoric from his party: President Donald Trump.

“I really feel like Trump has popped the lid off of the rhetoric and the sense of hate and violence, and promoted this type of environment,” Merkley answered. “It’s profoundly disturbing for all of us.”

What a sick man.

Merkley then made a telling error while trying to back up his insane claim that Trump is responsible for the rhetoric. Can you spot it?

“We have seen increased threats across the country; you’re probably familiar with the pizza threats where pizza and other foods (are) delivered to people’s families that they haven’t ordered,” the Oregon senator said. “Just to say from the right wing, ‘we know who you are and we know where you live.’”

As TGP has extensively reported, the victims of these pizza threats have been almost exclusively conservative figures.

Several conservative figures, including Nick Sortor, Gunther Engleman, and Shawn Farash, were swatted back in March. This came after Infowars journalist Jamie White was brutally murdered in Austin while another journalist from the organization got swatted twice.

Catturd was also swatted.

Conservatives on X were quick to notice this massive blunder.

UNBELIEVABLY INSANE:
Dem. Sen. Jeff Merkley just blamed Trump for the MN shootings.

He went on to blame the pizza deliveries followed by swattings on MAGA. These people are fcking nuts.
