Taxed, Silenced, and Shut Out: The Constitutional Crisis Brewing in Connecticut

Republished with permission from AbleChild.

Two grassroots organizations, AbleChild and Logical Conservatives, are traveling across deep-blue Connecticut to investigate a troubling question: Why aren’t the voices of the people being heard? AbleChild, a human rights group, has been unceremoniously cut off live on CTN television while testifying about children being given cocktails of psychiatric drugs not FDA approved for children in state care under Medicaid. Not only were the microphones cut off, but all public speaking time was closed to the public going forward and transferred to the state vendors who profit off the drugging of children. When a state silences independent advocacy organizations it ceases to function as a true republic. That’s why AbleChild is now supporting LogicalConservatives.com—to dig deeper into a system where supermajority rule may be rooted in fraud and abuse of power, not fair representation. The upcoming election isn’t about Democrats or Republicans; it’s about whether Connecticut’s government is accountable to those it claims to represent.  Both organizations will reach out directly to the people of Connecticut to ensure there is informed consent on the process of this important election and listen to the People’s voices.

No Transparency, No Answers

On June 24th, the Connecticut Republican Party will elect its next chairman, but outrage is boiling over as the process remains shrouded in secrecy. The 74 voting members of the State Central Committee operate with no public input or transparency. The rules for electing a chairman  are unclear, the list of voting members is hidden, and calls to party headquarters go unanswered.  The current chairman does not return calls. Even basic questions—Who are the candidates and how does one challenge the incumbent —are met with silence.

The current chairman is all but guaranteed re-election, not because of merit, but because the process is shrouded in secrecy. Several whistleblowers report that the system is closed by design. The system is not open or accessible.  Who is the current chairman, and what type of access and control does he have over the process?  Is the chairman required to provide a successful track record of achievements?

AbleChild was able to reach out to two voting members of the state central committee. We are withholding their names for obvious reasons.  Here is what we learned.  One new voting member describes the party in general as being okay with being in second place and agreed that the current leadership wasn’t good and had heard there was another candidate out there but didn’t have their name.  The time gap as a new voting member and the ability to interview potential candidates for the position is a concern.  Remember the current chairman has the ability to reach out and ask for votes, while any new challengers with no access to the voting members presents a real crisis within the party.

When we asked why no one called us back from state central, the other voting member indicated the party is really bankrupt and doesn’t have enough money to man the phones at state central.  When we discussed the uncontested seats, he did get back to us and indicated that even the democrats have uncontested seats.  In fact, he was kind enough to get us the number just in the house. Democrats had 13 unchallenged seats, while the Republicans had 31.  This doesn’t include the senate seats. Connecticut had the highest percentage of uncontested races across all election levels in 2024, with 95.1% of its 386 elections going uncontested.  That presents a problem for the voters from both political parties.

Apathy, Outrage, and a Constitutional Crisis

This closed-door culture has sparked a constitutional crisis. Connecticut taxpayers, already burdened with some of the highest taxes in the nation, now face “taxation without representation.” With Republican leadership unresponsive and the party losing over 31+ legislative seats, there is no credible opposition to one-party rule. Voters feel powerless and shut out from the party process and, hence, no meaningful representation in Hartford.

The result is widespread apathy and outrage. Many have simply given up, convinced their voices no longer matter in a system dominated by insiders and supermajority politics. When a major party becomes a “no answer” party, the State itself is at risk.

Time for Accountability

AbleChild is working this week to educate the public about the vital Republican State Chairman’s position and the stakes for Connecticut’s future. Is the Republican Party dead in Connecticut?  Interestingly, there have been rumors of a challenger: Thomas S. Becker, author of The Death of the Republican Party in Connecticut and Beyond.

AbleChild did try and reach out to Becker, but he seems unreachable. We understand Becker challenged the current Chairman last go around.  Maybe that prompted him to write the book, a good read by the way.  The lack of knowledge about the upcoming election is underscoring just how inaccessible and dysfunctional the process has become in Connecticut. Until the leaders—and the political system as a whole—answer to the people, the crisis of representation will only deepen. The time for silence and secrecy is over. If Connecticut is to function as State, it must start by letting the people in.

Either way, the RV tour begins on the 16th of June and will be present through the election on June 24th. Both grassroots organizations do not endorse candidates and are not affiliated with any party, all are welcome to visit the tour and the schedule can be found on logicalconservative.com.  We have to learn how to engage on all topics.

AbleChild is a 501(3) C nonprofit organization has recently co-written landmark legislation in Tennessee, setting a national precedent for transparency and accountability in the intersection of mental health, pharmaceutical practices, and public safety.
