Social Crisis Escalates in Germany Due to Illegal Immigration

«We have to ask ourselves why our social welfare systems have become unbalanced. Social systems function in case of need because they are funded by contributions. But if there are significantly more payouts to transfer recipients who have never paid into the system—who have never contributed at all but still receive full benefits—then it’s obvious that the social welfare funds will falter.

And that has been foreseeable for years. Through illegal migration, millions of people were let into our social welfare systems who had never paid in—and already, reserves worth billions have been used up.

And now they want to fill these gaps with tax money—again at the expense of contributors and taxpayers. We believe that’s socially unjust.

We should ask whether people who have come here illegally en masse even have any claim to our welfare systems. We say: No. Under us, this imbalance would never have happened.»

The current social crisis in Germany caused by illegal immigration has intensified in recent months, generating a strong political and social debate in the country.

Increase in illegal immigration
Germany has experienced a significant rise in the number of illegal immigrants, especially via Balkan routes and from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, and several sub-Saharan African nations.

In 2023 and so far in 2024, authorities have recorded tens of thousands of illegal border crossings, many without valid documents.

Pressure on public services
The asylum system, temporary shelters, and social services are overwhelmed.

Many cities and municipalities report being at the limits of their capacity, especially regarding housing, healthcare, and education.

The lack of effective integration has generated tensions in vulnerable neighborhoods.

Public safety and perception
Public concern over safety has increased, particularly after several high-profile crimes committed by asylum seekers.

This has boosted support for political parties demanding stricter immigration controls, such as Alternative for Germany (AfD), which has been rising in the polls.

Government response
The coalition government (SPD, Greens, and FDP) has recently toughened some migration policies, such as speeding up deportations and reinforcing border controls.

It has also promoted agreements with countries of origin to facilitate the return of rejected illegal immigrants.

Political and social tensions
Illegal immigration has reignited ideological divisions: while progressive sectors advocate for humanitarian rights, others demand stricter measures.

There have been protests both in favor of and against the current immigration policy, some of them involving violent incidents.
