It seems like Columbia University is finally getting the message.
The New York University, long considered one of the world’s leading academic institutions, has announced it will suspend, expel, and even revoke the degrees of students involved in last year’s anti-Israel protests.
The sanctions were confirmed by the Columbia University Judicial Board on Thursday, which said their extent would depend on the severity of their behaviors.
“The outcomes issued by the UJB are based on its evaluation of the severity of behaviors at these events and prior disciplinary actions,” the university said in a statement sent to the entire school community.
“These outcomes are the result of following the thorough and rigorous processes laid out in the Rules of University Conduct in our statutes, which include investigations, hearings and deliberations.”

While anti-Israel protests have broken out across the country over the past year, those at Columbia were particularly shocking and violent.
The demonstrations, marked by encampments and disruptions, escalated tensions on campus and forced many Jewish students to stay away from the campus.
Many of the agitators were open about their sympathies for the terrorist group Hamas.
The specific instance in question was the takeover of Hamilton Hall, during which the NYPD was eventually forced to intervene and remove those occupying the building.
The statement did not specify how many students were being punished.
“We will continue to work to support our community, including protecting the privacy of our students, during this challenging time and we remain steadfastly committed to our values and our mission,” the statement added.
The move comes after President Trump announced the cancellation of $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University over their “inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students.”
“Universities must comply with all federal antidiscrimination laws if they are going to receive federal funding,” said Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon.
”For too long, Columbia has abandoned that obligation to Jewish students studying on its campus.”
”Today, we demonstrate to Columbia and other universities that we will not tolerate their appalling inaction any longer.”
