The country music star Carrie Underwood will perform at Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
Underwood, who rose to fame as a contestant on American Idol, will sing “America the Beautiful” just minutes before Trump takes the Oath of Office.
She will be backed by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club, according to a screenshot of the official program.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,’ Underwood said in a statement obtained by USA Today.
“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
The ceremony will also feature performances by several musical acts, including operatic tenor Christopher D. Macchio, who will deliver the National Anthem as well as other musical pieces.
Macchio has previously performed at “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot at several Trump campaign rallies.
The U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club will present “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combine Choirs will contribute with a selection of diverse musical arrangements.
While the ceremony will be a happy occasion for the majority of Americans, many Democrats and disaffected Republicans will attend or even have to participate in the proceedings in line with political tradition.
Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat and longtime Trump critic, will be required to read out the call to order as part of her role as the Chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC).
Among those expected to be in attendance include Joe Biden as the outgoing president, Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff, Barack and Michelle Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton and George W. Bush and his wife Laura.
Last month, Axios reported that dozens of grieving Democrats may boycott the ceremony as part of the “first act of resistance” against the incoming president.
They reported at the time:
Not every Democrat skipping the ceremony will do so to protest Trump — but a formal boycott is materializing as a first act of resistance against the incoming president.
For many Democrats, the scars of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol remain fresh in the mind, marking Trump as a threat to democracy.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day coinciding with the Jan. 20 inaugural ceremony gives many Democrats an easy out, though others planning to stay away cited a distaste for inaugurations, a loathing of Trump — and even fears for their safety.
