The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released surveillance footage showing Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the perpetrator of the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans, planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) concealed in coolers throughout the French Quarter.
Jabbar was also wearing Meta-branded smart glasses, which he used to scout out the location during prior visits to the city.
Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran from Houston, conducted the attack by driving a rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, resulting in 14 fatalities and 35 injuries.
Before the vehicular assault, he strategically placed two homemade bombs along Bourbon Street, intending to detonate them remotely.
However, the devices failed to explode due to a malfunction or inactivity, according to New York Post.
In the footage released by the FBI, Jabbar is seen wearing Meta-branded smart glasses and a brown coat as he places two coolers containing homemade bombs at separate locations on Bourbon Street.
The FBI disclosed that Jabbar had visited New Orleans twice in recent months, using the smart glasses to record videos of the French Quarter, including a bicycle tour in October, suggesting these trips were part of his attack planning.

Investigators are also examining Jabbar’s travels to Cairo, Egypt, and Ontario, Canada, in mid-2023 to determine if they are connected to his radicalization or the planning of the attack.
Investigations have also uncovered that Jabbar had previously expressed intentions to harm his own family. In a series of disturbing videos, he discussed plans to gather his family under the guise of a celebration and then kill them.
The FBI reports that Shamsud-Din Jabbar had initially considered killing his family but ultimately decided against it, fearing it would divert media attention from what he described as the “war between believers and disbelievers.”
Recall that Jabbar mentioned experiencing dreams that he interpreted as directives to join ISIS.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Jabbar converted to Islam before spiraling into erratic behavior, according to family members who spoke with the far-left New York Times.
Dwayne Marsh, married to Jabbar’s ex-wife, noted the suspect’s increasingly bizarre actions, including cutting his hair drastically and displaying erratic behavior that prompted them to restrict his access to his daughters.
Jabbar had moved into a predominantly Muslim neighborhood north of Houston approximately a year ago.
Joe Biden and Jill Biden are scheduled to visit New Orleans to meet with victims’ families and first responders.
